The Greens’ Climate Emergency Bill
Greens MP and environment spokesperson Cate Faehrmann has given notice of the Climate Change Emergency Bill 2019
The climate crisis is here, and everything the experts have been warning about is happening faster than even they could have predicted. It’s clear we need urgent action now. Yet while school kids take to the streets, governments have their heads in the sand.
The Greens recognise that if we’re going to tackle the climate crisis, we need to take bold action now.
Our Climate Emergency Bill will:
- Ensure a rapid transition to net zero emissions by 2040
- Set up a Climate Change Commission that would allow any person to take legal action to hold the government to these targets
- Encourage a whole-of-state approach to tackling the climate crisis by encouraging the local government and private business sector, and the wider community take action to address climate change
Climate change is a serious threat to the social, economic and environmental well-being of our state, the country, and this planet. This is a global crisis that requires action from every level of government.
The time is now, but real change will take all of us. Join our movement now and let’s take our future into our own hands.
